Everyone has mental health – it’s just like physical health – and we need to look after it. You have good mental health if you’re able to think, feel and react in the ways you need and want. You might need support with your mental health if you find that the way you’re thinking, feeling or reacting is getting in the way of how you want to live your life. Problems with your mental health may be caused by what’s happening in your life, or by traumatic events from many years ago.
The national charity Mind was founded in 1946. Its aim is to ensure that everyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support. Mind also works to raise public awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health.
Mind offers counselling and support for adults and young people. In Burton, Mind works with a number of local schools to help young people get the mental health support they need. The charity also runs support groups and offers relaxation and mindfulness classes.
